I farmed in Oklahoma, ‘til
1932
The year the dust bowl
fever, stole the life I knew
It was then that I decided
To walk a brave new road
Mountain waters became my
home
Feel the temperature rising,
sweat pouring from my brow
Dust lifts up with each
footstep, keeps me in the here and in the now
Life isn’t longer
Than its latest felony
Mountain waters, keep me
free
Moonbeams over the mountain,
running from the rising sun
Scorched by the edge of the
fire, knowing that its time has come
To fly off to the distance
Like a broken memory
Mountain waters, keep me
free
Streams swirl down the
canyons, slicing the stone in two
They expose the time of the ages,
in red and golden hues
Gazing across this valley
I feel my destiny
Mountain waters, keep me
free
