FIREFLY words and music by Lenny

The summer night was
heavy, the air was hot and damp,
The moonlight through
the branches, burned like a zebra’s lamp.
The stars hung out
behind the clouds, waiting for a chance,
To prove they weren’t
victims, of an evil circumstance.
And the trees began
to rustle, when I heard a distant voice,
That weaved into my
consciousness, as if I had no choice,
A voice that sounded
tender, that came to me so clear,
A voice that wrapped
around me, a voice that drew me near.
Firefly,
firefly, buzzing ‘round the evening sky,
Cast
a spark to light my heart, my friend, firefly;
Firefly,
firefly, I think I’ve gone astray,
Come
and share your light with me, please show me the way.
The river ran and
rippled, across the aged stones,
That were left from
long ago, before my fate was known,
And sown into the
fabric, of life’s lottery,
That only now did cry
out, yearning to be free.
Now I walk the woods
at night, feel the breezes blow,
Looking for an
answer, that I might never know,
So I lay my body
down, looking for a sign,
To show me the
direction, to the finish line,
Firefly,
firefly, buzzing ‘round the evening sky,
Cast
a spark to light my heart, my friend, firefly;
Firefly,
firefly, I think I’ve gone astray,
Come
and share your light with me, please show me the way.
