I’ve been making cars
For almost 20 years
Building up the front ends
That helps to make ‘em steer
I bought me a little house
To raise my family well
Now I’m on a bread line
The future, I can’t tell
Laid-off
in Autumn, little notice at all
I
was just leaving, when I got the call
They
said please leave pronto, then said nothing more
Laid-off
in Autumn, shoved right out of the door
I’ve been a teacher
In a town where I grew up
Giving back to my community
In good times and in rough
But the people I grew up
with
Turned down the tax increase
The would have kept, my
school open
Instead, it got an early
release
Laid-off
in Autumn, little notice at all
I
was just leaving, when I got the call
They
said please leave pronto, then said nothing more
Laid-off
in Autumn, shoved right out of the door
I’ve always been an able man
Who worked not only for pay
Trying to solve some
problems
To give everyone a better
day
Looking for some answers
To help my society
But the moneymen soon lost
interest
When they couldn’t get a
guarantee
Laid-off
in Autumn, little notice at all
I
was just leaving, when I got the call
They
said please leave pronto, then said nothing more
Laid-off
in Autumn, shoved right out of the door
